This victory solidified their dominance after prior wins at the Wilton Invite, Brewster Invite, and the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championship. Coach Sean Astle, named FCIAC Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year in November, praised the team’s effort, attributing their success to “dedicated and determined athletes” and the guidance of assistant coach Annette Fiore.
“When you mix these types of kids with an elite coach, special results can happen,” Astle remarked.
Greenwich’s young stars consistently placed in the top ranks, with six runners finishing in the top 10 at Hatters. Their success extended to the varsity and junior varsity levels, with the JV team taking first in the FCIAC Championship and the varsity squad securing their best finish in decades.
“Our seniors have worked their entire high school careers to build an impressive culture for our program that the freshman runners are inheriting. I trust this special group will grab the torch, run with it, and make it something special of their own,” Astle said. “The entire team is a joy to coach, and one of the great privileges of my life.”
As the team prepares for the Nike NXR Northeast Regional Championship on November 23rd, the future looks bright for Greenwich boys' cross country.
